Stories and highlights
There's always something to celebrate at our school! From exciting events to proud moments and everyday wins, here are some of our highlights.
A year at our school

Sutherland Shire Schools Music Festival
Junior Dance
Our Junior Dance group was spectacular at the recent Sutherland Shire Schools Music Festival as they entertained families and friends dancing, taking us on a journey “Under the Sea”. They were very enthusiastic and were so excited to perform. All their rehearsals and lessons at lunch time certainly paid off. Thank you to our families who got their children to the venue in such difficult weather.
Mrs Campbell
Junior Choir
The Junior Choir did an outstanding job performing at the Music Festival. They were so excited for the concerts and sang so beautifully. The Junior Choir have worked hard to learn so many new songs and lyrics. Well done, Choir! Thank you, parents, for dropping off and picking up the choir students from the venues for all our rehearsals and matinee performance.
Ms Gibbs
Senior Choir
Congratulations to our fabulous Senior Choir, who so spectacularly sang at the Sutherland Shire Schools Music Festival at the Pavilion. These students have worked incredibly hard all year to learn many songs, lyrics, actions and even Auslan, in preparation for this performance.
Thank you to all families for your support in dropping off and picking up your children to the various rehearsals. This is always such a lovely performance and we are very proud of every single choir student.
Mrs Shapter
Senior Dance
The Senior Dance group jumped, slid, moved and grooved at the recent Sutherland Shire Schools Music Festival performance.
Their item ‘Jumpin Jack’ was a fast, high energy celebration and we are certain the audience were toe tapping throughout it!
Thank you families for your support. Looking forward to our next performance!
Mrs Shapter

Southern Stars
These 11 students started their Southern Stars journey with a few rehearsals, alongside Miranda North PS. They then went to the Illawarra Sports Centre to learn their item ‘Kiss the sky’ from the movie ‘The Wild Robot’. Mrs Shapter taught over 200 students all the steps and formations in preparation for their first combined mass dance rehearsal at the Wollongong Entertainment Centre (WEC). The dancers then met again at the ISC for final feedback and to ensure their dance was ready for the stage.
This week we have been at the WEC Wednesday & Thursday with full cast rehearsals – did you see our fabulous dancers on WIN news!?
Friday and Saturday are fun filled performances, with each day bringing a matinee and evening performance.
We are so grateful to our school community – as they say, it takes a village – and we are very appreciative of all the parents, grandparents and friends who have made sure our dancers are where they need to be at all times. There has been lots of early drop offs, late pickups and supervision between shows – thank you families!
Another big thank you to the staff for their support, in particular Mrs Meadows who has accompanied Mrs Shapter to all rehearsals and has been such a positive support to the dancers (and Mrs Shapter!).
Mr Crawford and Ms Hockin have stepped in to support at some of our shows – thank you to you both as well.
Finally – dancers – thank you for coming along with us to celebrate 25 years of Southern Stars, you have all worked incredibly hard and have certainly earned a rest.

Living Eggs
Students across the school enjoyed our chick hatching program. It was very exciting watching the chicks hatch and grow as we learnt about the life cycle and needs of chickens. It was great having so many families interested in the program and enjoying some cuddles with the chicks before and after school.
"We love our school for its supportive community and commitment to every student’s success. Our child feels safe and inspired every day.” — a parent of Heathcote East Public School
