Towards the end of last year, Heathcote East began a project to create an Indigenous Garden that will serve as a living tribute to the rich cultural heritage of Indigenous communities. This collaborative school project offers students a unique opportunity to connect with nature, learn about native plants, their cultural significance, and the sustainable practices traditionally used by Indigenous communities. To begin the project, a Yarning Circle was installed in October, 2024 and signs designed by students and staff were gifted to the school from Year 6 in late 2024. Recently, the school applied for a grant to support with the funding of this project which had to fall under the Societie Matters Framework of Community Awareness and Respecting our Environment. We received great news that our school Indigenous Garden Project won third place and we received $1000 towards the project.Thank you to Mrs Gander for her work and commitment to organising this special project.
